Message from the President

Dear members,

Time has really flown by. I can’t believe that the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014 scheduled to take place in Montreal, Canada, from May 31 - June 3 is just around the corner. The conference promises to be an exciting one as it will contain a wide array of presentations, seminars, exhibits, and meetings that are important to all industrial engineers who would like to keep current with developments in the field.

At the Division level, we have quality presentations lined up for the ISERC Track which showcases cutting edge concepts and research. Thanks to our ISERC construction Research Track Co-chairs Dr. Gerry Knapp of Louisiana State University and Dr. Paul Ray of University of Alabama for assembling a collection of outstanding research papers and speakers. We also have excellent presentations for the Solutions Track which covers recent applications of IE principles in the construction industry. Thanks to Dr. Lincoln Forbes, our immediate past president, for chairing the Solutions Track and for the fantastic group of seasoned speakers that he has gathered.

On behalf of the Division, I would like to congratulate Laura Florez of Georgia Institute of Technology who is this year’s winner of the Construction Division Student Paper Competition. The title of her paper which she will be presenting at the conference is "Decision Support System for Sustainable Labor Management in Masonry Construction." Thanks to Dr. Laura Ikuma of Louisiana State University who chaired and managed the competition. The competition as in previous years was sponsored by the ConAM Group, a builder and developer of residential projects throughout the United States.

We hope this newsletter will help you locate all the Division’s activities and presentations. Please support the Construction Division by attending as many presentations as you can!

I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Regards,

Aloysius A. Attah, P.E.
President
