President's special edition message
Dear Division Members,
Happy New Year! Welcome to 2014!
I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you for your support this past year. Without your support we could not have completed some critical items such as the Strategic Plan and the 2012/2013 Division Health Report (DHR). Based on the preliminary feedback we received on the DHR, we are in good shape.
The IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014 scheduled to take place in Montreal, Canada from May 31-June 3, 2014, is fast approaching. I hope you are planning to attend. We have exciting presentations lined up for our ISERC and Solution tracks. ISERC track covers the latest concepts and research that impact the direction of the construction industry. The Solutions track covers applications of IE principles in the construction industry.
This year the ConAm Group, a builder and developer of residential projects throughout the United States is once again sponsoring the student competition for papers demonstrating or describing the use of industrial engineering tools in a construction environment. The papers should demonstrate or describe the use of techniques such as lean methods, quality management, green technology, simulation, optimization, automation and alternative materials. The competition is open to both current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in any school in the United States. The Construction Division will present the Award at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo May 31-June 3, 2014, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The first place winner will receive a complimentary conference registration, one complimentary Honors & Awards Banquet ticket and a cash award of approximately $1,150 and a travel stipend of $1,000.
The paper submission deadline is March 7 and the winner will be notified by March 28. If you are interested or know any students that might be interested in the competition, the following link contains more information on the competition requirements: http://www.iienet2.org/Details.aspx?id=4074.
Please contact us any time that you have questions or comments.
Thank you and have a pleasant 2014!
Aloysius A. Attah, P.E.
