Assessment of 2008 Performance

Areas of Positive Performance

  • The chapter was awarded the Platinum Award for our Newsletter during the 2008 Annual IIE Conference while maintain a Gold status for the Chapter.
  • Our Mentor Day Event included the participation of eight students from the Kansas State University, four students from the University of Missouri and ten mentors.
  • Our membership numbers showed a significant growth from the prior year. End of 2007 – 87 members; end of 2008 – 100 members; or 15% growth.
  • We closed the year with an outstanding Fall Conference, which attracted 49 attendees and originated revenues of $3,247.81.

Areas Needing Improvement

  • We need to increase the participation of other IIE members to assist and participate in the on-going development and organization of chapter activities.
  • We need to increase our community exposure by participating in further community related activities that will recognize IIE as an active and contributing professional organization.
  • Development of a succession plan for all officer positions looking ahead 1-3 years so that each individual can be properly coached for seamless transition of power/duties.
  • Development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for core chapter functions, duties, and protocol.

2009 Chapter Objectives

  1. Membership: Growth, reclamation, and retention
    • Continue the 15% growth momentum that we’ve experienced from 2007-2008, however, we also need to be realistic that such goals may not be realistic due to the current economic situation of our nation. With that in mind, we need to make sure that all of our events promote greater values and networking opportunities for our members.
    • Continue to aggressively recruit graduating seniors from the University of Missouri - Columbia, Kansas State University, Wichita State University, University of Arkansas, University of Iowa, Iowa State University, and University of Nebraska – Lincoln who will be relocating in the Kansas City area after graduation.
    • Establish a strong reclamation program by sending direct communication (e-mail, mail flyer, and phone call) for members who have dropped from the roster in order to determine root-causes and potentially reclaim the member.
    • Establish a “Company Captain” program that we will recruit the assistance of one IIE member, for companies with two or more IIE members, to coordinate the promotion of chapter events and promotion.
    • Seek out larger companies with IE departments that currently do not have a participating IIE member.
