2014 SEMS Management Award nominations still being accepted
It is not too late to submit nominations for the 2014 SEMS Management Award, which will be presented at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo 2014 in Montreal. The purpose of this award is to recognize a current IIE member (who does not have to be a current SEMS member), who has distinguished himself or herself in the practice of management and industrial engineering. Nominations should be submitted to the 2013-14 SEMS Immediate Past President Jennifer Farris by Jan. 31. SEMS is seeking nominations for board members and president-elect
SEMS is currently seeking nominations for three board members and the 2014-15 president-elect. All nominees must be current, regular members of SEMS. Students are not eligible. SEMS or other IIE experience is encouraged but not required for board positions. Nominees for president-elect must have previously served on the SEMS Board. All positions are three-year terms and elections are scheduled for February 2014, with terms starting in June 2014. SEMS 2013 Virtual Conference on Best Practices in Management Continuous Improvement
SEMS 2013 Virtual Conference on Best Practices in Management Continuous Improvement was held on Nov. 20. The event featured six internationally-recognized experts in different aspects of continuous improvement, ranging from corporate strategy to implementation methods, and representing companies such as Denver Health and United Airlines. As with the virtual conference in 2012, the overall conference and individual speakers received strong reviews from attendees. If you were not able to attend the live event, you can still register to gain year-long access to the archived presentations from the conference. See the website for more details. 2013 ISERC Conference Paper Competition results
The Industrial and Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC), part of the IIE Annual Conference and Expo, is a forum for exchanging knowledge and discoveries in the industrial and systems engineering research community. Each year, a paper competition is held within the Engineering Management track.
Two of the five finalist papers were:
- Customers’ Behavior Prediction Using Artificial Neural Network by Bichen Zhen, Keith Thompson, Sarah S. Lam and Sang Won Yoon of the Department of Systems Science and Industrial Engineering State University of New York at Binghamton, Binghamton, New York; and Nathan Gnanasambandam, Xerox Innovation Group, Webster, New York.
- Life-Cycle Assessment of LEED vs. Conventionally Constructed Residential Units by Woo-suk Chun, Peter P. Feng, Alfred E. Thal, Jr., and Adedeji B. Badiru of Air Force Institute of Technology.
