About the division
Members of this division are interested in advancing their knowledge of lean practices.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Lean Division shall be to support its members by fostering networks, offering programs and maintaining resources that represent their core competencies and/or areas of specialized practice. Read the bylaws.
Goals
- Develop, maintain and disseminate a body of technical knowledge.
- Provide a forum for technical networking.
- Be perceived as the voice of the technical specialty.
- Collaborate with IIE to support the mission of the Institute, provide member value and promote the discipline.
- Work with the Networking Leadership Council to establish a set of metrics that track Society & Division activities.
IIE Annual Conference and Expo 2013, May 18-22, San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a place where old traditions are embraced as new industry is cultivated, and the IIE Annual Conference 2013 is all about applying the traditions and core concepts of industrial and systems engineering to modern global issues. All the valuable training and networking opportunities of our annual event will be as available as they always are – just in a beautiful island setting! Remember that Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so U.S. citizens require no passport to travel there.
There will be hundreds of industry and research sessions targeted to the challenges of today’s IE professional who works in myriad organizations and industries to improve quality and productivity. Also, the event will provide an array of networking opportunities to get insights from the best and brightest professionals from around the world. Do not miss the exhibits showcasing the latest innovative applications and the pre-conference workshops (topics on lean, quality and leadership), the outstanding facility tours, and so much more.

IIE Engineering Lean and Six Sigma Conference, Sept. 23-25 in Atlanta
The 2013 IIE Engineering Lean and Six Sigma Conference will take place during Sept. 23-25, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel at Ravinia. The keynote speakers have been announced and soon tours and specifics of the program scheduled will be posted. Please check the conference website regularly for more announcements.
Awards Announement: J T. and the late Carol S. Black Student Paper Competition
IIE Lean Division is pleased to announce the winners of the seventh Lean Student Paper Competition sponsored by J T. and the late Carol S. Black. The competition recognizes outstanding student papers in the field of lean research and practices.
Awards Announcement: Lean Best Practice Award
The Lean Division of IIE launched its third Industry Best Practice award and invited applications from organizational teams. The Lean Best Practice Award recognizes organizations for innovative and effective implementation of Lean principles and practices that deliver exemplary business performance improvement. Every year IIE conducts the award competition to promote successful implementation of Lean by recognizing best in class industries and sharing their stories with others. Awards Announcement: Lean Teaching Award
The Lean Division is pleased to announce that the winner of the IIE Lean Teaching Award for 2013 is Dr. Rupy Sawhney from the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Tennessee. Congratulations to Dr. Sawhney!
The IIE’s Lean Division offers a number of awards to recognize the contribution of individuals to advancing the knowledge and practice of lean concepts. The Lean Division’s Teaching Award is given out annually to honor the services of a person/group of people who have developed curriculum and disseminated courses in the subject area.
