Fighting off monkey business

As a child growing up in Manitoba, Canada, I had the "pleasure" of participating in a game we called "monkey in the middle." The goal, if you want to call it that, is to stand in a circle and throw a ball to everyone but the monkey in the middle. My wife assures me that most people call it "keep away." Either way, both terms apply perfectly to the situation of middle managers and supervisors who work in organizations that are in the middle stages of continuous improvement transformation.
