The day we strive for
Senior project planner
FMC Technologies is a global provider of technology solutions for the energy industry. I’m a senior project planner in the well completion systems, a sector of the subsea systems that encompasses a wide range of equipment and technologies required to explore, drill and develop offshore oil and gas fields.
In this role, I manage manufacturing sales orders worth more than $10 million for numerous offshore drilling ventures. Part of my responsibility is to ensure upholding acceptable procurement and manufacturing MRP dates by synchronizing project objectives with engineering design release dates and making recommendations for modifications in the sourcing strategy. A critical aspect of my role is to identify, analyze and address potential complications and delays that may arise in either purchase or manufacturing work orders.
Challenges arise at a moment’s notice due to manufacturing and quality issues on parts manufactured in-house or at supplier sites for turnkey purchase of parts, which can affect project delivery schedule. I act as the mediator between project management, supply chain, quality and manufacturing to ensure the timely resolution of these potential roadblocks. Interacting daily with numerous personnel in these various departments and putting out fires has greatly improved my people skills and my outlook in life.
A perfect day at work would include seeing the timely resolution of potential issues arising from delays in procurement and manufacturing resulting in a successful value stream. The most exhilarating moment is witnessing a subsea tree being shipped off from the facility to the customer, concluding several months of fruitful planning.
I’m working toward moving into a leadership role in operations or project management, which would entail greater responsibility that maximizes the use of my skill sets.
