Systems Engineering by Ricardo Valerdi

Requirements are king
A requirement is a condition or capability a user needs to solve a problem or achieve an objective. One of the unique skills systems engineers have is the ability to identify, elaborate and manage requirements. Having clear requirements has many benefits, including the fact that they provide clear and measurable objectives of the system being conceived. Furthermore, they establish a baseline from which future modifications or upgrades can be made. If requirements are not well-understood or well-written, then a project is doomed to failure.
