Recruiting new generation of industrial engineers
I am a senior member of IIE. One topic that comes up frequently in Industrial Engineer magazine is how to educate the public, especially students, about industrial engineering.
Well, like I do every year, I volunteered today to speak to two groups of students about industrial engineering at my local high school. I’m guessing I had about 40 kids in total, all juniors. This is associated with a career day morning that the guidance department sponsors.
It went well, mostly because I had some good material off of the IIE website. I used the PowerPoint presentation “IIE Overview of the Profession” as my template. I also was able to “spice up” my presentation with the two YouTube videos: “Take a Look at Industrial Engineering in a Variety of Industries” and the Wichita State University video “The Knack.”
I think we have a good group of potential engineers – hopefully some industrial engineers. Thanks for your help.
