High performance work systems can increase employee safety

Businesses implement occupa-tional safety programs to ensure an industrial environment free from dangerous working conditions to prevent employee injuries and deaths. Generally, such programs assess safety risks in the workplace and maintain regulatory and legal requirements. Implementing these programs is essential to the health of employees and the financial well-being of the business. Conversely, unsafe working conditions have been shown to hamper employee health, morale, performance and the overall competitiveness of business.
