Developing work measurement tools for mobile devices makes things easier
By Bonnie Boardman
Few industrial engineers spend their day at a desk. IEs are typically up and about. They are on the floor talking with front-line workers, they are in conference rooms brainstorming with managers, and they are on the road visiting customers. As on-the-move professionals, IEs should be ideal users of productivity applications developed for mobile devices. Surprisingly, a key term search on iTunes for “industrial engineering” will result in a list of apps, but only a select few of them are IE tools. Amateur app development is a useful solution for IEs who view this absence in the market as an opportunity as opposed to a problem.
