Export sustainable manufacturing ideas

My last IE magazine column in September explored one inescapable outcome of worldwide population growth and rising consumption and consumer expectations: the need for increases in global manufacturing to provide adequately for Earth’s more than 9 billion inhabitants by 2050. Ramping up production significantly over time will not be simple or easy, particularly if we hope to avoid a repetition of the environmental challenges of the last century, such as unrestrained use of raw materials, excess energy consumption and pollution of our land, water and air.
