Manufacturing for a crowded planet
Population growth and rising consumption soon will hand the world’s industrial economies their greatest challenge since World War II.
According to the Census Bureau, the global population is now 7 billion. The world could have 8 billion people in 2025 and more than 9 billion by 2050. The challenge to manufacturing is how to provide for Earth’s billions of new inhabitants by midcentury — less than 38 years away.
