In this section, we highlight a SEMS member for outstanding leadership in IIE and for exceptional service to the Society. This month, we honor Kirk Knock!
Kirk’s professional contributions include providing a SEMS webinar presentation that described how to move from a "quality owned" to a "process area owned" management review process in the ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 environment. He discussed how this shift leads to accountability for efficient and effective processes throughout the organization. The content included the "before" and "after" approach used to make the review more engaging and risk-based. The processes reviewed included: production controls, product design, sourcing and material controls, human resources, environmental, CAPA, document and configuration management, and customer feedback. The method has been recognized as a "best practice" by external assessors.
Kirk’s SEMS activities include serving as a presenter at the IIE Annual Conference and Expo 2012 in Orlando, and being instrumental in connecting the dots between 2013 conference organizers and his company, Medtronic. Medtronic was a key host of the IIE Annual Conference and Expo 2013. Kirk also has acted as a judge in ASU IIE student competitions. Kirk provided two Medtronic projects for ASU industrial engineering seniors, facilitating the efforts in conjunction with the university. Kirk has also hosted a monthly IIE Chapter meeting at his place of work.
Kirk is an active volunteer at his church, helping with events such as Coats for Kids and Tootsie Roll drives for the Mentally Handicapped/Developmentally Disabled.
Congratulations to Kirk. SEMS appreciates his service!
