IISE-CIS Mobile App Competition
The objectives of the fourth IISE-CIS Mobile App Competition are (1) to motivate students to use their creativity in developing mobile apps that are based on theories and practices of Industrial & Systems Engineering or related fields; and (2) to develop a business plan to justify the need for their mobile app in the market place.
Eligibility of participants
- Any undergraduate or graduate students, domestic or international, from higher education institutions in the field of Industrial & Systems Engineering or related fields.
- A team can consist of a maximum of four members, either current students or recent graduates. Only those students that are enrolled at the time of the submission of the two-page proposal are eligible to participate in the competition.
- At least one of the team members must be a member of the IISE.
- Proposal submission
Teams must submit a two-page proposal describing their mobile app, via email, to the chair of the competition steering committee. The two-page proposal must include a list of team members and their affiliations, the name of the mobile app, a list of features of the mobile app and the target market segment(s) of the app.
- The scope of apps
Any mobile app that is based on any concept, principle, technique or application related to the field of Industrial & Systems Engineering will be accepted.
- Mobile app submission
Teams must submit their prototype mobile app, software design document and a demonstration video clip, via email to the chair of the competition steering committee. The competition steering committee will review the submissions and select a maximum of four finalist teams. Depending on the number of and the quality of submitted apps, less than four finalists may be selected.
- Final presentation
The selected finalist teams will demonstrate their mobile app and will make a presentation to explain the technical details of their mobile app and their business plan at the IISE-CIS Town Hall Meeting to be held at the 2016 IIE Annual & Expo in Anaheim, Calif., May 21-24. The technical details of the mobile app should include, but are not limited to, features and architecture of the mobile app. The presentation about the business plan should include, but is not limited to, the target market segments, marketing strategy and profit model.
- Approval of proposals
The competition steering committee will review and either approve or reject submitted proposals. Final decisions will be sent via email by the chair of the committee.
- Selection of top four finalist teams
The competition steering committee will select a maximum of four finalist teams. Finalist teams will be notified by email by the chair of the committee.
- Selection of winners
The selected finalist teams will demonstrate their mobile app to the competition steering committee and will also make a presentation at the IISE-CIS Town Hall meeting. A blind vote cast by invited judges will decide the winner of the 4th Annual IISE-CIS Mobile App competition.
- Proposal submission: Deadline extended to Nov. 20
- Approval of proposals: Dec. 4
- Prototype mobile app submission and documentation: Feb. 15, 2016
- Finalist teams notified: March 7, 2016
