The following is a brief listing of the responsibilities for the various Committees of the Baltimore Maryland Chapter.  These task descriptions are provided to inform you of the level of effort associated with the positions and to encourage your involvement to support the Chapter.

In order for the Chapter to remain a viable resource for its membership, the members must be a viable source to maintain an effective level of support.  Please contact any Officer or Director for additional information or to offer your support.

These committees may have as many persons as needed to accomplish their responsibilities.  A Chairperson should be selected to coordinate the overall activity.

Chapter Development Committee

 

The responsibility of this position is to maintain, an "on-going", documentation of the chapter activities in accordance with the Chapter Development Manual, issued by the Institute.  The data collected is submitted to the Institute as a final report that reflects the level of the Chapter's activities.  The Institute evaluates the submittal and awards points for completion of the activities in accordance with the Chapter Development Program.  Depending on the amount of points approved the Chapter, President & the C.D. Chairperson, is awarded a plaque reflecting the level of effort during the fiscal year.

Constitution & Bylaws Committee

 

The responsibility of this Committee is to maintain our Chapter Constitution & Bylaws in accordance with the Institute's Constitution & Bylaws and actions of the Chapter Board of Directors.  See Articles C-X and C-XI of the Constitution.

Currently the Constitution & Bylaws are on an Apple IIc.

Community Services Committee

 

The charter of this Committee is to lead the Chapter by organizing, conducting and appraising the Institute's Community Affairs Director of Chapter consulting activities for non-profit organizations unable to financially support the assistance otherwise.  The intent is to introduce the principles and practices of industrial engineering to the organizations receiving the services and to encourage the Chapter members to participate.

Program Development Committee

 

The charter of this committee is to develop membership meeting programs that promote the understanding and professional practices of good industrial engineering, encourage personal development, the current state-of-the-art, and motivate the membership, present and potential, to enthusiastic attendance at the chapter meetings.  The chapter conducts 8 meetings a year consisting of technical/educational subjects and plant tours.

Membership Expansion Committee

 

The responsibility of this committee is to make both members and guests welcome at meetings and promotion of their participation in other chapter activities and/or membership.  Period appeals, of membership drives, should be made in the Chapter Newsletter and include incentives for member participation.

Membership Retention Committee

 

This committee, through use of the membership status received from the Institute - monthly, should contact individual members relative to their status to ensure that the members has received, and is aware, that their dues notice was mailed recently.  During this contact the committee shall seek to obtain information as to the intent of the member.  Should the member be considering dropping their membership, the interviewer should request the reasons for the decision and report the finds to the V.P. Membership.

Membership Qualification & Certification Committee

 

This committee assists the membership in reclassification of membership grade based on the criteria established by the Institute as compared to the individuals educational and experience gained since joining the society.  It also, maintains awareness of certification opportunities available to the membership.  the committee works closely with membership to encourage them to take the Board Examination for Professional Engineering.

Student Coordinator

 

This position is to accommodate an interface between Student and Senior Chapters, the position would be a member of the Student Chapter.

Currently we do not have a Student Chapter in our area.  However, we are working with the Morgan State University to establish a chapter.

Awards Committee

 

This committee will administer the Institutes Awards Program in accordance with the IIE Manual, except the Chapter Development Awards, at the chapter level and may choose to develop a Chapter award for services rendered to the chapter and the IE profession, pending approval of the Chapter Board of Directors.  The committee should actively pursue identification of qualified chapter members and provide/assist in compiling the necessary forms for submittal of the nomination.

Phone Squad

 

This committee should be structured to form a network of individuals, by company, to facilitate distribution on chapter meetings and special events.  Each committee member should have a listing of members within their respective companies, with may be sub-divided to minimize the work load, to encouraged to participate in the chapter activities.

Employment Committee

 

This committee shall function as a central focal point for employment opportunities and individual member needs for potential employment.  It is not intended to be a resource for employment agencies nor as a clearing house for employers.  The committee can, after approval by the Board, submit employment opportunity notices for inclusion in the Chapter Newsletter, to the Newsletter Committee.

Directory Committee

 

This committee is responsible for the annual publication of a Chapter Membership Directory, prior to the start of the fall meeting agenda.  The Directory data is currently on a WANG system.  This committee must work closely with the newsletter committee to provide mailing labels.

Engineers Week Committee

 

This committee coordinates the Chapter activities with the Engineering Society of Baltimore.  In the past, the activities have included a donation, Program support, Student coordination and support for the "Engineer for a Day" project.  The Engineering Society handles the overall planning and normally requests the support of the Chapter based on their needs.
