Facility tours require pre-registration and separate fees. Space on tours is limited. Register early to ensure your space on the tours.
The San Juan Host Committee has arranged a full day of excellent tours for you. The Tuesday tour will include Medtronic and Amgen facilities in Juncos. Please read below for more detail.

Medtronic Puerto Rico Operations – Juncos
Amgen Manufacturing Limited – Juncos
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The tour will depart the Caribe Hilton at 9 a.m. – The group will travel to Juncos and visit both Medtronic and Amgen facilities. Lunch will be provided.
Medtronic Puerto Rico Operations – Juncos
This tour will visit the Cardiac Rhythm and Disease Management (CRDM), Neuromodulation, Diabetes, and Surgical Technology (ST) Divisions product lines manufactured at the Medtronic Inc. facility located in Juncos, Puerto Rico. As well as experiencing first-hand the manufacturing side of medical devices products such as: implantable pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators, implantable cardiac resynchronization therapy devices, and monitoring systems for the treatment of several cardiac conditions; external insulin infusion pumps, insulin reservoirs, pump remote control, and continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor for the treatment of the diabetes condition; neuro-stimulation systems and implantable drug delivery systems for the treatment of chronic pain, movement disorders, and urologic and gastrointestinal disorders; and disposable devices used in neurosurgery, spinal surgery, ear, nose and throat surgery, general surgery and orthopedic surgery.
Security Issues: All visitors must stand by all health, security, safety and environmental regulations and company work practices while on the site. All visitors must wear a Visitor’s badge and must be escorted by a Medtronic employee at all times during their visit. Firearms, knives or dangerous weapons are not permitted.
Competitors Accepted: All visitors will be required to sign a standard MDT form of Confidentiality Agreement prior to get access to the facility. Visitors must disclosure if they are Medtronic competitor’s employees.
Cameras and other recording devices are not permitted.
Special Needs/Equipment/Shoes: MDT is a smoke-free facility. There will be light to moderate walking in an air conditioned spaces and into a manufacturing controlled environment areas (CEA) so comfortable closed shoes should be worn with 2 inches maximum heel. Due to the special environment conditions any visitor that enters the CEAs must wear gowns, gloves, socks, shoe covers, hair covers, beard covers (if applicable) and protective equipment where applicable, which will be furnish by MDT. Clothing must cover the full extension of the legs, leaving no exposed skin. Their skin must be free of any make-up. All jewelry must be confined under gown sleeves, gloves, or the hair covers. Personal electronic devices are not allowed on the CEAs.

The Amgen facility in Puerto Rico has achieved an outstanding quality and compliance record, while the company has established solid relationships with the government, the local community, and academia. This plant visit will include a brief presentation of Industrial Engineering applications at AML; a plant tour of one of AML’s manufacturing operations, a tour to our Process Development lab and a discussion panel with members of AML leadership team.

Special Needs/Equipment/Shoes: AML is a smoke-free facility. There will be light to moderate walking in air conditioned spaces and into manufacturing controlled environment areas so comfortable closed shoes should be worn with 2 inches maximum heel. Open-toe or open-heel shoes are not allowed. All personnel entering the manufacturing areas must first remove particulate from their shoes using the bactereostatic rug located at the entrance of the manufacturing areas. All personnel shall wash their hands with soap and water upon initial plant entry, and before entering gowning areas. All personnel shall immediately report any abnormal situation or health issue such as fevers, allergies, colds or any skin problem (including acne outbursts) so that necessary steps are taken to protect product safety and integrity. Legs and shoulders must be covered. The use of makeup, watches, and jewelry is not allowed inside the manufacturing areas. It is not permitted the use of artificial nails, nail polish, or nail hardener inside the manufacturing work areas. It is strictly prohibited to eat, drink, chew gum, or smoke inside the manufacturing and packaging areas. Cellular phones are not allowed in classified areas or packaging rooms. Safety glasses (provided by AML) shall be worn at all times within the production areas.
